Order Sunbrella Fabrics and Swatches

What is Sunbrella? Why does it perform so well? Sunbrella is made from acrylic which is colored in its liquid state then spun and woven into a fabric so colorfast that you can clean it with 100% bleach and is, therefore, widely used in the marine and awning industries and outdoor cushions. Other fabrics are printed or dyed after they are spun and/or woven. A great visual comparison is comparing a carrot with a radish wherein the carrot has the color on the inside and the radish just on the surface.

We only make outdoor cushions with solution dyed acrylic because of their durability , comfort and water resistance.. Although such fabric is considerably more expensive than other fabrics, it is worth the additional investment because of the durability which is several times longer than most other fabrics. These are graded meaning there is a cost variance mostly attributed to the weave complexity. Most, but not all, manufactures grade the fabrics alphabetically: a “B” grade is more expensive than an “A” grade. The price continues to increase as it moves through the alphabet, but the durability remains nearly the same.

Acrylic fabrics can also be printed with many beautiful designs that are too difficult to weave. The problem with printed fabrics is that most quickly fade from sun exposure.

Vinyl-Coated Synthetic Fiber Mesh

Vinyl-coated synthetic fiber mesh is also referred to as PVC mesh or slingable fabric. It is often used for sling-type outdoor chairs, whose fabric — not the frame — supports your weight. This fabric is strong and limited stretch. Other fabrics, such as solution-dyed acrylic, printed polyester and printed acrylic outdoor fabrics, are not strong enough to cover these types of chairs. Most PVC mesh fabrics are made of vinyl-coated polyester or acrylic yarns, as well as other synthetics such as olefin and PVC, but the composition of materials varies depending on the manufacturer. They make a durable, easy-to-clean, colorfast and strong outdoor fabric that doesn’t promote mildew growth. We only manufacture slings out of this fabric.
